General English courses

In our gWriting, Learning, Learn, English, Knowledge, Reading, UK, Londoneneral English courses you will need to practice the four main English language skills which are: writing, listening, reading and speaking. The other main focus in our general English course is to develop on speaking and listening skills and to increase vocabulary skills.

The main purpose of the general English courses at oxford house college are to help you to use general English in everyday situations such as in the shops, at the bank, the post office or on the bus.

During the course you will study with a course book. It is highly recommended that you purchase a copy of the course book from the college library. Your teacher may also use other learning resources throughout the course for example newspapers, audio cassettes and videos.

Once you begin the course, the teachers will asses your current knowledge of English, to make sure that you are placed in the correct group level. There are a number of different levels throughout the general English courses and usually would take around 180 classroom hours to complete a level and then move up to the next one.

You will have a counselling session with your teacher at the end of each month to discuss your progress. The session is also a good opportunity to discuss your weaknesses and strengths in English with your teacher. You will also need to do a progress test at the end of each month so that your teacher can see where you are up to with your English.
